We recently wrote about steps that the FTC took to stop MOBE, an internet business-coaching scheme that was promoting a bogus online business opportunity to retirees and veterans. We’ve gotten a lot of questions from MOBE customers on our consumer blog and business blog. Here’s what you need to know if you were a MOBE customer.

Status of the FTC Lawsuit against MOBE

The FTC filed its lawsuit against MOBE in June 2018 and the case is ongoing. At the FTC’s request, the Court has temporarily suspended MOBE’s business operations.

The FTC’s primary goals in these types of cases are to stop companies from breaking the law, and to recover money that the company should not be allowed to keep. The Court will decide what we can do in MOBE.

Status of Refunds

It could take several months, if not longer, to resolve the case against MOBE. If the lawsuit results in refunds, we will tell you in the FTC's consumer blog. We’ll use information from MOBE’s database to identify customers who lost money and are eligible for a refund. At that time, you might need to give information to verify your claim. But not right now.

What to Do Now to Get a Refund

Nothing. You don’t have to do anything right now to request a refund. If you hear that you have to send a request to get a refund, it’s not true. That could be scammers trying to steal your personal or financial information. If there are refunds, the FTC will tell you if you need to do anything. But right now, there’s nothing for you to do.

Amount of Refunds

If there are refunds for MOBE customers, each person’s refund may depend on several things, including: how much the defendants are able to pay; how much the court orders for refunds; how many people lost money; and how much each person lost.

Timing of Refunds

If the Court orders refunds for MOBE customers, we will send out checks as soon as we can. There are several steps, including getting the money and information from the company, getting the checks ready, and mailing them. Those steps often take several months.

What to Do If You Were a MOBE Customer

  • Report your MOBE experience to the FTC: ftc.gov/complaint. This information may help the FTC in its case against MOBE. Your report also makes sure the FTC can contact you, if necessary.
  • If you were a MOBE customer outside the United States, you also may want to report to the consumer protection agency in your country. For more information about reporting international scams, go to econsumer.gov.
  • Save your documentation. Save any emails, documents or receipts relating to MOBE. If the case results in refunds for MOBE customers, your records could help you prove how much you paid. That could be a factor in how much money you could get back.

My name is Ann-Marie, and I just came across this information on YouTube about MOBE. I am a member of MOBE, as their are no expiry date to their course when I signed up in 2015. I lost thousands of dollars using several credit cards because I felt they let me believe that their was a future for llife. Sad to say that I had to declare bankruptcy as I was not able to make an income. So dissapointed. I do not wish Matt Lloyd any evil. However, the money he made was from our investment that yeilded an income to him and his buddies. I hope to God that I am able to get back all or some of that money. Wish them well.

I also would like to get a refund. I paid for the 21 Step plan and also purchased the Silver and Gold Master classes for a total of 2545.00. This is not including the cost of the website and other services they said I needed to continue the course. The mentoring service included was also extended at a cost. I am unable to find that documentation, though. I was very invested timewise and emotionally in this course and an extremely disappointed in what has transpired with MOBE.

I feel violated that Matt and his fellow MOBE compatriots could intentionally defraud us for their own unscrupulous gains. I cannot afford to pay the five credit cards issued to me in the amount of $26,000. I also incurred another $24,700 for Masterminds that I did not attend because I felt pressured to purchase what I could not afford. My coaches never really told me from which products I could choose when starting my business. I thought this was not realistic and unusual. MOBE has targeted seniors and veterans. Would Matt do this to his mother? Shame on him and the others who have profited from us. I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and trust that they will be able to present an effective case of this fraud to the court.

I am retired and living on a fixed income and had paid for the three Masterminds from my retirement account. I am having a very difficult time making end meet. I'm hoping to having my credit card debt discharge and receive a refund on my money for all my other expenses with MOBE.

After hearing about Mobe's downfall I submitted my Complaint in July 30, 2018. Pretty much like everyone else I was shocked to know that I had been scammed after being careful. I am retired with no savings, borrowed money to invest in this company that promised to help us rise from this poverty dilemma. Instead I was left with a debt of $21,363. I was forced to go to a debt consolidation company to keep all my creditors from eating me alive! So, back to living from paycheck to paycheck (social security no less)! I have applied to over 60 jobs but guess a 72 year old doesn't have a chance with all younger applicants. I do hope i will get a refund real soon.

I was a newly initiated customer, I paid the full amount for the Gold package and didn't even receive the package and lost my money completely. I have a receipt for proof that I invested $2500.00. It would great I received a refund. Please

Why am I still receiving emails from MOBE ?? I ignore them of course, because I backed out of losing more money than I already had lost, so with this FTC report I'm rather confused now.
Enough Already

Why am I getting contacted by people as if MOBE is back in business on Facebook? These people are using the same sales tactics as MOBE did, and it makes me think Matt is back in business to try and scam us again. I'm not taking the bait but others seems to be. Beware folks...

Are there any updates on the status of the case or refunds? I’ve completed the complaint almost a year ago and I have all of my receipts from what I invested into MOBE.

I had made a comment about MOBE last year and I filed a complaint, but never saw my comment listed. Is there a way of finding out if my comments were received. Over $30,000 was lost to them.

I was told that in order to make more money I needed to position myself by buying into the top level. I spent much of my retirement funds to do this. Not just the money, but endless hours of "learning/coaching", and buying traffic. They had the numbers down to a science. If you wanted to make a certain amount per month then you needed to purchase enough traffic and sell a certain amount of mttb's, that would then be upsold by the coaches as the mttb's went through the 21 steps.

I live in Houston, TX I lost over $3,000 with Mobe. And I lost over ten grand trying to get more funds to invest in the company. I would love to get some of my money back. I know others lost much more than that, very sad. Taking advantage of folks eager to improve their lives

It was so disheartening after joining the Titanium level. I was dropped like a hot potato.......unless I was willing to give them more money. Then I was all over their radar until the well went dry. No call back, no refund not anything. I got a chance to speak with the person that signed me up a few months back. He did not remember me....that was a shocker! We will see when the dust settles if I get to recoup some of my losses. So very sad!

My story is similar to others I did the 21 step, titanium and was into the platinum level as well as paying for a one on one 3 day in person training that never happened. This was by far the most embarrassing experiences of my life. To think about it even now is painful. I never got one sale though I spent a lot marketing and buying leads. That is the only thing I am happy about... that I did not pull anyone down this hole with me.

Was trying to look up the complaint I filed for MOBE. When I enter the information that I have, I am getting an error message that my information is incorrect. Yet, I am looking at the confirmation that I received when I initially filed the complaint. Not sure how else to try and get help with this.

I am also a customer that lost money in 2014 to the tune of $30,000.00 plus. I am contacting the FTC through the link provided. I saved all my documents, email, lists, event schedules, photos, videos, receipts, non-disclosure agreements, etc. I will be more than happy to turn them over.
