Scammers are calling people and using the names of two companies everyone knows, Apple and Amazon, to rip people off. Here’s what you need to know about these calls.

In one version of the scam, you get a call and a recorded message that says it’s Amazon. The message says there’s something wrong with your account. It could be a suspicious purchase, a lost package, or an order they can’t fulfill.

In another twist on the scam, you get a recorded message that says there’s been suspicious activity in your Apple iCloud account. In fact, they say your account may have been breached.

In both scenarios, the scammers say you can conveniently press 1 to speak with someone (how nice of them!). Or they give you a phone number to call. Don’t do either. It’s a scam. They’re trying to steal your personal information, like your account password or your credit card number.

If you get an unexpected call or message about a problem with any of your accounts, hang up.

  • Do not press 1 to speak with customer support
  • Do not call a phone number they gave you
  • Do not give out your personal information

If you think there may actually be a problem with one of your accounts, contact the company using a phone number or website you know is real.

Read our article to learn how to block unwanted calls on a mobile phone or on your home phone. And if you do get a call you think is a scam, report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

I’ve received 6 today and ask them if they work for Amazon why can’t they just connect me with the fraud department. Then they hang up. I called Amazon directly and no one has attempted to purchase an item.

11 calls in 2 hours and 1 minute. All were calls from 812-327-xxxx numbers with the last four being different each time. Answered the 11th call and it was a poor quality, computer-generated message from "Amazon" about suspicious activity on my account.

I have received 25 of these calls, every 5-20 minutes since 8:45 am this morning. They are all using number spoofers where the area code and first 3 digits are identical to my phone number, and I am seriously losing patience with this. The FTC needs to step up and take action on these scam robocalls.

Got a scam call from "Apple", from 866-271-7075 (an unassigned number). The robovoice said I was charged $1299 for a purchase I made. Pressed 1, guy with a foreign accent asked for my Apple account # (he didn't give his name or identify himself as an Apple employee), I told him I didn't have it and the call was disconnected. Fair warning for anyone else who gets this call from this number.

I received phone call from number 732 697 5587 from "Derek from Amazon", he asked if I try to purchase iPhone 11 for 900 USD and said if not (I dod not purchase anything recently) that means my Amazon account is hacked. I said I will call amazon directly and ask them about that. He gave me phone number to call back 321 362 6422. He had heavy foreign accent and he sounded like a scam from the start.

15 Calls in 2 Hours

June 30, 2021
Please please do something about these calls. I’m getting hammered with them this morning. One every five minutes or so. They’re leaving voicemail messages every time, too, so I’ve got to block the number and then go through and delete each voicemail; and then permanently delete all of the deleted voicemails. HEY FTC! Do something about this!!

I received about 16 calls of this kind today (Apple account breached). One of the phone numbers came up on my caller i.d. as Dieud Faurismar (Dieudonne Faurismar). Either this person's number has been hacked, or the individual is making the calls. I reported the morning calls and afternoon calls separately to FTD.

Just got a call supposedly from Amazon (Lakeland 813-333-xxxx number - I assume its fake too) about high priced product that I supposedly ordered (I hadn't ordered it). They said "press 1 to get this taken off my account." Yeh right - I didn't press 1, I called Amazon's real number instead to report it.

Be careful, these scammers are using local area code number to trick you into answering your phone. I get about 2 to 3 calls from them almost everyday. They make excuses and make you download a software. Don’t download it. If they figured out that you know that they are scamming you, then they will call you names or hang up on you. If you hear a message about fraud on your credit card, Amazon account or Apple account, then hang up and don’t press anything. Just go double check your account to see if there is any strange activities. Good to teach family and friends about these scammers.
