Identity Theft Awareness Week 2026, Jan. 26 - 30

Has someone used your personal information to open accounts, steal your tax refund, or file fake health insurance claims? That’s identity theft. It can happen to anyone, but you can take steps to protect yourself.

Join us for Identity Theft Awareness Week 2026. The FTC and its partners will host a range of events on how to avoid identity theft, recover if it happens, and spot scams. We’ll have information for everyone, including advice for servicemembers, older adults, and families with children.

  • Podcast: The Fraudian Slip: Identity Theft Awareness Week. Kick off Identity Theft Awareness Week with the FTC's Division of Consumer Response & Operations on the Identity Theft Resource Center’s (ITRC) podcast to discuss all things identity theft. Listen on ITRC’s website any time after 11 a.m. ET.

  • Webinar: Protecting Your Veterans Benefits and Avoiding Identity Theft. Identity thieves target military servicemembers, veterans, and their families in specific ways — often going after your hard-earned benefits. Join representatives from the FTC and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to discuss how to protect yourself and your loved ones from identity theft.
