Faking it — scammers’ tricks to steal your heart and money

Hi, I am not sure I have some fool trying to scam me, friend requested me on Instagram his name is Harry Kim. Says he is a American Doctor working for the UN in Iran. Parents have died and is a widower with a 12 year son home schooling in Dubai. Very good looking and felt to good to be true. Very quickly he wanted to message on Hangouts wanted to start a new life with me etc. I became quite suspect as his grammar wasn’t great which I thought odd as he was a American. I have asked him if we can video call and quite amazingly he has now gone quiet. Why do people do this? I have been hurt from my ex husband and for a couple of days I genuinely thought someone wanted to get to me. I feel an absolutely idiot.

Matched with a guy on Hinge. Name is BRANDON LAW HENRY. Supposedly lives in Springfield, Illinois. Supposedly a First Sergeant in the Army-- Combat Medic. Originally from Tucson, Arizona. Parents dead. Wife died a couple years ago. Small son. Immediately wanted to switch to Google Hangouts because he has T-Mobile and it costs him to text me. LOL. OK. Immediately starts trying to profess his love for me, how beautiful I am, what about my personality can I tell him that is critical to the relationship. Blah, blah. I ask him where he is stationed. He cannot tell me. Right. Ok. Tells me he is possibly going to be deployed for 3-4 months. Pretty sure the Army doesn't deploy their soldiers for that short a time period. Just waiting for him to ask me for money or for whatever help he needs. I don't believe a word he tells me, but if it keeps him from scamming someone else I will mess with him and keep the game going. It's actually pretty funny and during COVID-19 quarantine I am in some serious need for a good laugh or two. I wish I could post a photo but I don't know how to do so.

Has anyone meet a guy saying he has a box. His name is Michael David. Which the box is really a safe. He said his agent Peter Anderson has it from the bank and will have it delivered to me. Since I was Michael's soon to be wife. I sent $550.00 to get the so called box. The box got stuck at customs. Peter his agent said he needed $2000. To get the box out of customs cuz of fees on the box. So I did. Send that to him. Peter said customs want to have the $1500. To complete getting the box. The fees went up. To get the box sent to me. Then Michael said I can have the cash in the box. To get me paid back. And the documents would get him home to me. Michael David Is a marine engineer. He said. He cant get home unless he gets his box which is a safe. And gets the documents. He said his whole life savings is in that box. Car keys, house keys and etc.. Michael has 2 kids Eric and Kimberley. He claims to live in Concord NC. His kids are in boarding school. His wife was a teacher. But she got hit by a bus. And died. Can anyone also tell me is there a bank in New York called universal destinations safety bank ltd. And his agent Peter Andersen said he has the box which is a safe. Please help. I need answers. Oh I am so tired of this going on I have been called every thing in the book because I refuse to send them money. Why do they do this and make us look like mean selfish person in all this . The minute they say hangout they are scammers UN doctors they say all scammer Military all scammers and that's sad my husband was a vet my son was a Marine my grandson is a Marine too so I know they are not true vets please be careful ladies

I have been talking to this guy for about 3 months know and want to know if he is a scammer he says he is an orthopedic surgeon in Somalia in the peace keeping mission he has sent pictures in scrubs and with a stethoscope but who knows I believed at first what he was saying to me was real but now I’m starting to question all of it he asked me to request a vacation for him through the United Nations and the fee to bring him home is 8700 dollars I did email them they emailed me back saying about the fee is it fake ? I don’t know he asks for money a lot for different things like to help his daughter his dogs and to help him pay for the use of his desktop at work to fill out paperwork that United Nations has asked him to fill out also to pay for his phone? He gues by the name Dr Anderson Ryan if anyone knows anything please let me know

I have had the same experience, has anyone be scammed by a Mason Allemand? Pictures he sent are of a tall us soldier, spent a few weeks sending loving texts over Instagram and hangouts and then asked for a gift card for WiFi. I was suspicious a little anyway because he spoke in broken English and claimed polish was his first language but apparently been living in the states since a young child. He claimed to be stationed in Kissimmee, Florida. I feel like such a fool for sharing information about myself and my family and even though I had suspicions I was just so lonely I think I wanted to believe him. Asking for the gift card made me realise that he was in fact a scammer so I blocked and reported his social media accounts. I have had no results in a google image search which is disappointing, I would love to inform the real person in the pictures that someone is using them for fraud! I have found it so hard to trust because of a past relationship and can’t believe I spoke so openly to this scammer, lesson learned!

I received a friend invite on FB from a handsome guy named Christian Greg Hernandez. I accepted his friend request because I saw that we had mutual friends, plus he was very handsome. He sent me a private message and we started chatting. I told him how I normally don't accept friend requests from strangers. But I continued to talk with him and he seemed very polite. Of course he asked me to start talking on hangout. We have been talking for about 3 days now. He says he's a Marine currently deployed on a peace keeping mission to Syria. He's divorced and has a daughter and she's currently with a nanny. Today, something was telling me to confirm that he is real and is really who he says he is. I started looking through his profile and something didn't appear legit. I couldn't see any comments. The same people kept liking his pictures, which was weird. Then I started doing some research and some people on here were commenting about a person in the military in Syria!! That's definitely a sign. His profile met all the signs that this article stated! I blocked him from facebook and hangout! People...be careful who you accept requests from!

We live and lean you don't even have to pay extra to stay on the line line line less than $500 later . I am so naive I had no idea about a romance scam and I met him on facebook and everything he did is exactly what is described the sweet words loving me quickly wanting to marry me sending me sweet images said he worked in construction was from Germany but lived in First Virginia then moved to Florida bespoke for months as this site says gaining my trust getting you to fall for them then he gave me this sad story about his sister needing money for surgery I Western Union him $500 we still talked after that but after he couldn't get any more money out of me I take it the socall relationship plus I got tired of the same old lines of him loving me so much yet showed no action then it dawned on me after we stopped that things just didn't add up and I realized and reading this article that I was a victim of a scammer . I now believe another person is trying to scam me and I wanted to educate myself to look out for all the signs and it's almost a repeat however he hasn't asked for any money but he use the same verbiage as a previous guy Terms of Endearment my queen I'm so in love with you I want to marry you I have two kids their mother ran away with my money again trying to build trust thinking yeah this is the scammer this one is living in London as a civil engineer she has two small children said his wife ran off with all his money but after two weeks he is in love with me and my soulmate blah blah blah but he hasn't asked for any money yet but I'm sure it will come up. I'm so grateful for knowing this sooner than $1,000 's later its so sad that people innocent loving caring men or women how people are just so horrible and deceitful unbelievable but I do believe in karma and nothing good will come by these dishonest people who tried to ruin our lives

Says his name is Ryan Gabriel we started talking on hinge dating site .he told me he has been widowed 4 years now his mom died last year. and his dad died way before that. his daughter is 8 & goes to boarding school and has a nanny. he sent me pictures of this beautiful little girl he said he had no friends and just worked all the time . we talked about 2 weeks, i wasn’t that interested. But i felt bad because of all the death in his life. so i didnt want to just stop chatting. then he tells me he got a contract with NATO for some weapons project in Syria. so he asked me to download whatsapp we talked on that app about 5 weeks before i started to see things weren’t adding up i asked if he was on social media he said yes ryangab60 is his instagram its private. but he was sending me these long love poems a googled and found most of them. he was telling me he loved me and blah but it was all very quick and sketchy. just wanted to warn people of him when i sent him some things i found and shared my suspiscion. he got defensive and said i havent asked you for money. i asked him for a picture with him holding up a paper with my name on it. and i asked him for a picture of him and his daughter together. Also asked for his ID with his posture and name showing, he said he will prove me wrong and then never talked to me again. he couldnt deliver either. He’s still on what’s app but hasn’t responded with any proof because he’s lying.after a little research i see this is not uncommon and happens quite a bit.

Anybody know a James Carter? Okay I need some help... so this guy writes me on a casino app and we move our convo to the KIK app, which he said is all he has. Basically his ex cheated on him and he is shy and has no self confidence. We click great and he says he hasn’t opened up this much in a long time. He send me a couple cute photos, one is black and white, and there is nothing when I do an image search. I asked him to Skype with me bc he is in the UK and I, in america. He says he will until it comes time and he disappears and blocks me on the KIK app. A week goes by and he pops back up. He sends me a couple videos apologizing saying he just got scared, and he was falling hard for me too quick. I tell him to send me another. Idea saying my name which he does and apologizes in the video again. We plan to Skype again and when it comes time to, he once again disappears and blocks me. I’m heartbroken. Is he just shy or am I being catfishes?? The videos on KIK that he sent me said camera underneath and he sent them right after I told him too. Can he be fake if he said my name in a video and they were live? Or is he just honestly shy???

yeah i was talking to this one on pof- we are using hangout now- which i dont mind- but he's talking about i love you and if i dont talk to you i feel like i could hut myself, and then asked me to help get his exercise bike fixed for him to get started back to work for his clients because he is a fitness instructor- all this after like 5 days of talking, like a week or so. he sends pictures and of the equipment and stuff too and his family with him in the pics- he says he lives in the states. I informed him i cannot help him and does he have insurance on his equipment- he says no. but he keeps messaging me.

Went by the name Christopher Hansen, born in Uk , but brought up in Texas, USA. Stuck in Turkey due to lockdown/Coronovirus. Reports to be an engineer in the oil industry. German wife cheated on him with best friend, mother in ICU following an accident which killed her two friends and never knew his father. We met online dating, very quickly chatted via email. It was all very intense and less than 2 weeks he had 'fallen for me' and literally wanted spend the rest of his life with me. He used the terms 'dear and darling' a lot. He said that he had recently moved to UK and planned to build a warehouse for engineers? Luckily, I realised that something was not right and blocked him asap. The photo used I believe is not the scammer, I think he is innocent in this. My concern is that my photos will be used to scam another person.

I was talking to a guy on Date British Guys. We really hit it off and things were moving along. He never got to hit me up for money because my daughter was in the hospital with pneumonia. My son ran his name : Carl Breniger and hit pay dirt. This guy has been scamming for years . He said he knew “I was the one”, but was chatting up 17 other women. Please ladies, listen to your family. They want you to be with a special person , but not one who has his hands in your bank account. If he cannot work out his finances or has a good friend to help him, get a clue and run.

Hey! I have been contacted by someone on Instagram who goes by the name “jones_gabrielediz”. States he is a member of the USMC and is 38. Tells me he was born in Chicago but is now living in Turkey. Says he is half “north Cyprus/US”. Originally approached me in Spanish?!? He says he is a single father and has been in the military for 20 years. Very reluctant to share current photos and his English is broken (starts a lot of sentences with “Am”. Professed his love after a day of small talk. Has never asked for money but wants to chat on whattsapp. He has asked me questions Which appear computer generated lol. I feel very bad for the military person he has stole photos from. He even sent me a video of him playing a guitar and his daughter who has a clear American accent, yet he stated he wants her to learn Turkish as she’s from there? Can’t he learn her Turkish being as he’s allegedly half?!?!? Strange. I wish I could trace the poor serviceman who’s photos he’s stolen as this isn’t right. He has not obtained anything personal eg email address, home address, DOB, bank details etc I’m too smart for that. Please be careful

I need help, I am freaking out I screwed up big time I should've red flags but I guess I was blinded for love, mainly because being in love I was heartbroken and to finally find love through dating site I thought it was easy. Here's my story I met this guy who says hes American from Cali but he's Singaporean Chinese background he said his parents are dead and hes an only child. He told me right away the bat that he loves me crazy right? I was way way over the moon for this guy, he tells me he's a contractor and he's headed to Turkey roughly for 6 months during, which was weird I thought flights were cancelled. He tells me couple of days being in "Turkey" that he brought gifts for me to send my address, I was curious so I did give him the address and I asked for the tracking number right away I wasn't given the tracking number until roughly 3 days later, I didn't realize the company he used I never heard of and the company is located in London, UK. I didn't realize that the name of the airport they used from where I am from was misspelled wrong. The courier texted me I had to pay 2000 for the package I should've been alerted way way before giving my address. The courier gave me 3 different bank acct with names and addresses to pay up, me being naive I paid up I paid the deposit I thought it was over until now. I supposed to receive the package the courier said its being held at customs because they scanned it and the package there's money in there and tells me they are surprised by that I told the courier I had no idea and I asked the guy and he said he send 50000 in cash and the courier said I have to pay 8000 to be cleared and receive the package or they can seize the package he said I can be charged or worse with money laundering since they have the address on the package. The address is my brother I have been living here now I am scared that maybe this is real and that can happen. This courier text me from a different number and name and when I asked I thought I was speaking with Michael not williams he said that is him so made me curious if this is a scam, I told the chinese guy to figure it out himself to leave me out of it which he asked to pay up and receive the gift with the money. I am scared at this point because what if its really real they I can go to jail for this right? or my brother or my sister in law and possibly be flight right right? I need help!!!!
