Someone pretending to be from the FTC is sending out fake emails telling people that their Do Not Call registration is expiring. The emails use the FTC’s logo and send people to a phony Do Not Call website to register their numbers again.

Don’t buy it. Do Not Call registrations never expire. Once you add a number to the Do Not Call Registry, you don’t need to register it again -- ever. We only remove your number when it’s disconnected and reassigned, or if you ask us to remove it.

Not on the Registry yet? You can add your phone number at donotcall.gov or by calling 1-888-382-1222 from the phone you want to register. Learn more about the Do Not Call Registry in our FAQs.

Are you already on the Registry and still getting a lot of unwanted calls? Odds are, many of those calls are from scammers. Check out our article on blocking unwanted calls to learn more about what you can do.

In spite of my registering with FCC for"Do not Call", I get so many unwanted unsolicited calls. Is there something FCC can do this harassment of consumers????

Being on the do not call registry is one thing. Now spam callers are ghosting numbers that are in your area code and look close to your number. No way to block the registry to fix this. Just block the number after it call.s

I received a call from a telemarketer, and I told him my number was on the Do Not Call list - he said, "oh, we call it the hang up list." These companies and scammers know there are no teeth in the law.

All day long I continue to receive calls regarding Paying Student My Student Loan. I never went to College. When I select the option to speak with someone and tell them that, they hang up on me. I block the number everytime, they just call back on a different number. I must get at least 12-15 calls a day. How do I stop this?

The Do Not Call list is a phenomenal failure. I keep getting 4-5 robocalls a day attempting to scam me into debt reduction and other schemes. It is worse than before I signed on the Do Not Call list. FTC is not doing their job of going hard after these low lives and the companies that enable them to run their robocall operations. Shame!

My mobile number has been registered on Do Not Call Registry .donotcall.gov/register/ reg.aspx since 2011. I have heard rumors that fines to the callers are $700 per violation. There appears to be NO enforcement because since then I continue to receive unwanted calls without limit or recourse. NO clear and effective complaint procedure or other remedy is available at this site. Either this agency needs to clearly publish effective remediation procedures or stop misleading consumers and shut down.

Once your number is registered, you can report unwanted calls at FTC.gov/DoNotCall.

The FTC compiles the phone numbers people complain about and release them each business day. This helps telecommunications carriers and other industry partners that are working on call blocking solutions. Many call blocking tools rely on blacklists, the databases of phone numbers that have been reported as the source of illegal calls. Even if a scammer fakes caller ID information — so the number you see isn’t the scammer’s real number — reporting it can make a difference. Call blocking technologies also can help prevent this kind of spoofed traffic.

I've spent basically my entire day today calling the scammers back that called me this morning. They are a supposed legal firm that had continued to hang up on me, call me a lowlife mother, say they feel sorry for my kids "cuz I don't pay me bills", tell me that my neighbors have a nice house that I should aspire to be more like them. They were very unhappy that I called them out & continue to call them throughout the day. Please feel free to contact these scammers at 815-518-6035. Have a great day everyone!!

I have received TEN cold marketing calls so far today - between 8:30am and 2:30pm!! If we could put men on the moon "50 years ago", you would think that we have the technology to stop the damn marketing calls!

I registered my phone number a long time ago and just today got a telemarketer. I checked the registry and my phone number was no longer in the registry and I had to re-register my phone number.

I entered my phone number over 5 years ago but when I double checked after getting lots of robo calls, the do not call website said the number was not on the list. That doesn't seem like "never expires."

I keep receiving scam calls from a robocaller stating they are calling from the Social Security Administration and that my social security number has been suspended. I am, then, prompted to press "1" to speak to with a Social Security Administration agent to have it reinstated immediately. What is the FTC doing about this?

My husband and I are both on the do not call list. And like many others we too continue to receive calls. We are now getting calls from Russia and Afghanistan. We never answer them but this is very troubling.

I've been on the list for years and I still get calls. I recently changed to a different mobile carrier and kept the same number. The amount of calls I receive daily now is ridiculous. This list doesn't work as well as it used to - probably no sanctions for ignoring it.

I have added myself multiple times - I still get calls. I file complaints about these calls. Today I went to file a complaint and it says my number isn’t registered. I have had this number active for 20 yrs. I hadn’t been disconnected - but it states right above the registration doesn’t expire. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to re-register. What’s the point of my registration “falls off” and my number if fair game again?
