Still getting calls from people claiming to be from Medicare, asking for money or personal information? Watch this video about how you can protect yourself from Medicare scams:

Medicare Scams sound like this

The FTC worked with AARP to create a series of videos about imposter scams – including Medicare scams, IRS imposters and robocalls. While the videos are aimed at older Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, the tips apply to everyone. For the next three Fridays, we’ll highlight these videos.

This week, you’ll learn about these calls that pretend to be from Medicare. The video will help you recognize the scammers who ask for your Medicare number so you can get a back or neck brace. Or who say they need your information or money so you can get a new Medicare card. And you’ll hear from an FTC expert about how to avoid these scams:

  • Hang up. If someone calls claiming to be from Medicare, asking for your Social Security number or bank information to get your new card or new benefits, that’s a scam.
  • Don’t give personal information to a caller claiming to be from Medicare. You can’t trust caller id. These calls can be spoofed so they look like they’re coming from Medicare even when they’re not. Before you give any personal information, initiate your own call to Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE.
  • Report the call. Report Medicare imposters at 1-800-MEDICARE and ftc.gov/complaint. The more we hear from you, the more we can help fight scams.

For more information about stopping imposter scams, visit ftc.gov/imposters. And to learn about how to stop unwanted calls, including using call blocking technology, go to ftc.gov/calls.

DONT SAY YES
June 09, 2020
When they call and say "Can you hear me ok" Most people say "YES" They are recording so that "YES" is what they need to say whatever they are touting you said "YES" to. Don't say "Yes" and hang up. When I see an unknown number calling I always answer with "What Do You Want" not even hello. Then hang up and block the number.

They call multiple times per day. We have asked repeatedly not to be called. Last time they talked to mom they stated that her medicare would be cancelled if she did not confirm her number, But she is too smart for that. She just shames them for being liars and frauds.

They contacted my father in law and then someone came to the house to do a routine health screening. This is pure outrage. We live 5 hours apart. I just found out about this but will be in touch with the local authorities in his town first thing in the morning. Now I don't feel he is very safe also. Please help stop this.

I just received a call, the person had a heavy accent and said he was from 'Medicare Health & Wellness' regarding orthopedic brace for my father's back and leg pain. I asked for a call back number and he gave me (501) 326-1523. He kept repeating my dad's name, address and insisting that I confirm. There was so much noise in the background and I straight up asked if this was a legit call because I was reporting to Medicare and hung up.

My father received a call from someone claiming to be from a "Medicare Verification Service." They asked if he had received a new card, and if so, to read them the Medicare card number to ensure that it was "correct." Obviously all kinds of warning flags went off; it's fortunate that my father's English wasn't great, because if he didn't ask me for help, they likely would have stolen his identity. Watch out.

I am getting 10 - 15 medicare calls a day! This should not be happening. They ask if I have received my "packet" or ask questions but I usually just keep saying "hello hello hello hello" and they hang up. Or I will just hang up. Ugh!!

I just received a call from someone claiming to be from the US Medical Department asking if I received my new ID cards last week. When I pressed the person further to understand who they were and where they were from they hung up on me. The person mentioned MEDICARE so be careful if you receive a call like this.

We received a call from 701-415-3542 and they said that they were from Medicare. They kept saying that they wanted to do a survey to see if we were getting the full benefits from Medicare. They wanted to know which state we lived in. There were a 3 separate people that kept coming on the call, one after another. One male was particularly rude to my wife. They kept asking for the data on our Medicare card and my wife told him that she wasn’t going to give him any information and he lost interest and he ended the call. They sounded very professional and being the sort of people that don’t like being rude to people on the phone, anyone who is susceptible thinking that it is an official call from Medicare may easily be fooled. After the call we looked them up and found out that it was a scam. According to the article we saw, giving your Medicare number can be more dangerous than giving your credit card number They need to be STOPPED immediately.

I got 5 calls in 1 day. Each time I asked for their names so I could call Medicare and verify that what they were telling me actually came from Medicare, and they all hung up on me.

I get calls daily claiming to be from "Medicare" or with a health screening service. I block them all, but not before telling them, "Do not call here again." Does that make a difference? I have my doubts, because they use all kinds of phone numbers in their phishing scams. It's exhausting.

Medicare Rewards call me on multiple numbers from multiple states using a live person or robo 1 to 4 times a day. This is harassment. They are using our phones which we pay for to scam us out of our money. I have reported them at least 30 times. There is a law that if you are on the No-Call Directory, companies that call are breaking the law. Reputable companies do not use these techniques.

Callers have said they are with Genetic Health and American Health and that they had sent mail, which I did not receive, regarding their test products. AH claimed falsely the Covid vaccines have caused large numbers of cases of thrombosis, strokes and other disorders, and because I was vaccinated, I needed tests to assess my vulnerability. They claimed their companies were contracted by Medicare, and they got their information about me from Medicare. They did not initially ask for my SS number, but after I questioned their assertions I was transferred to another individual who began asking to "verify" personal information . I said don't call again and hung up.

I get 2-3 calls per day from “Medicare.” Today, I received my 1st call from the “Health & Wellness Center, a new telephone interview program to assess patients annual health & wellness by phone in an effort to avoid possible exposure to Covid.” St least this caller didn’t speak in broken English. I told her the same thing I tell all of them: “I don’t discuss health or finances over the telephone” at which point she hung up. It’s tragic that it must be successful with some people, or they wouldn’t keep doing it. The Do Not Call Registry is useless anymore. The scam reporting process should be easier. There needs to be a huge campaign of informing the public so no one misses the message.

They've been calling my cell from the "Medicare Assistance Facility" 6-12 times per day from phony numbers and random town names like "Broken Bow, NE" and "Barnstable, MA" They always give a phony first name, ask to speak with my wife by name and drop my last name but mispronounced. What good would it do to report a call from a phony number and town?

I just received an unsolicited call from "Medicare." The agents name was Tah. He was calling from Morgantown, North Carolina and obviously reading a script. The number: 1 828-608-9243 I venture to guess this in not from a government agency. Beware of anyone offering all sorts of free no cost reviews of your medicare. They want your information~!
