Are you an SSI or VA beneficiary? If you didn’t file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and have dependent children, you must register with the IRS by noon Eastern Time on May 5 to get an additional $500 economic impact payment for dependents — or else you’ll have to wait until you file your 2020 tax return to get the money.

Fill out a non-filer form NOW to get your full economic impact payment if these three things apply to you:

  • You get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits
  • You have qualifying children under 17 — and
  • You didn’t file a tax return in 2018 or 2019

You must fill out this form and submit it by noon Eastern Time on Tuesday, May 5, to get your full payment now.

If you miss this deadline, you’ll still get your $1,200 payment, but not an additional $500 per dependent child under 17. Instead, you will need to wait to get the additional payment when you file your tax year 2020 return.

However, do NOT use this tool if you’ll be filing a 2019 return. According to the IRS, if you are required to file a return, using this tool will NOT speed up your economic impact payment. Instead, it’s likely to slow down processing of your tax return and getting any money.

I HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS. WHY IS THE I.R.S. ASKING ME FOR MY ROUTING NUMBER AND CHECKI G ACCOUNT NUMBER? SHOULDN'T THEY HAVE THESE ON FILE? I AM AFRAID TO GIVE THEM NOW BECAUSE OF ALL THE SCAMMERS OUT THERE.

It's good that you're being careful. There are definitely scammers out there, and the IRS is not calling or sending email to ask for routing numbers and checking accounts.

If you need to give information to the IRS to get a payment, go to www.IRS.gov/coronavirus. Or, read the questions and answers about the payments.

I am still waiting just for the $1,200 Economic Income Payment. I have heard about every other group but not seniors as to timeline or even seen my deposit. I would like even an idea of when. A person can stretch a dollar just so far that is if nothing unusual happens

If you get Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability benefits or SSI, use this chart from the Social Security Administration to find out when and how you will get a payment.

You do not have to do anything to get a payment. The payment will come the same way you get your benefit.

I am on SSI & don't usually file taxes. I went ahead and sent in a tax form anyway in April 1st. I got my $1200 on May 1st. I also filed in a 'Non Filers for dependents' form on April 21st. I still haven't received $1000 for my 2 kids. When can I expect that to come?
